Symptoms of Hypothyroidism

Symptoms

There are no symptoms that are unique and specific only to hypothyroidism. Symtoms may be very mild at the early stages and are often undetected. However, as time goes by, untreated hypothyroidism can cause obesity, joint pain, heart disease, and infertility. Other symptoms can include:

  1. increased sensitivity to cold

2. Constipation

3. Depression

4. Fatigue

5.Weakness

6. Heavier menstrual flow

7.brittle hair and nails

Elderly people with an underactive thyroid may develop memory problems and depression. Children may experience slower growth and development. Teenagers may start puberty earlier than normal.

  1. A hormonal disorder can cause so much unwanted/undesirable symptoms indeed! Best to stay healthy and ensure hormone levels are balanced through health check ups and proper diet! Great blog with useful visuals by the way! :)

    1. Nope, we can't. The symptoms are not specific to hypothyroidism. But it can be detected through a blood test to check the TSH levels. The doctors would take into account the test results and the symptoms.
